Austine Evans Named Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Board of Trustees Chair

Jan 11, 2024 by Zoe Beale

Austine Evans, a distinguished alumna of Wake Forest University, has been named chair of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Board of Trustees, effective January 1, 2024. With an impressive background in education and a deep commitment to student success, Evans brings a wealth of experience and passion to her new role. Having served previously as a Board of Trustees member for both Peace College – now recognized as William Peace University – and Wake Forest University, her wealth of knowledge will create a valuable insight as she takes on this new role at Chowan.

Evans, a 1968 graduate of Wake Forest University, holds a bachelor’s degree in biology. She furthered her education by obtaining a master’s degree in counseling, also from Wake Forest. Evans, after completing her two degrees, went on to receive her Certification of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Education from East Carolina University. Hailing from Martinsburg, WV, Evans collectively dedicated over three decades to the field of education. She began her career at Peace College in admissions and later served as a high school counselor in Hertford County. Eventually, Evans joined Â鶹ÊÓƵ as a senior administrator and vice president.

Expressing her enthusiasm for Chowan’s mission to foster student success as a Life Skills University, Evans emphasized the importance of equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive beyond their time at Chowan. Her dedication to empowering students and promoting their achievements aligns perfectly with the university’s vision.

Mrs. Evans’ appointment as Chair of the Board of Trustees signifies a new chapter for Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Her leadership and guidance will undoubtedly contribute to the university’s continued growth and success. The entire Chowan community eagerly anticipates the positive impact Mrs. Evans will have on the university’s commitment to student success.
