Chowan鈥檚 Department of Communication Arts offers new Mass Communication Major
Starting in August 2021, Chowan鈥檚 Department of Communication Arts will begin offering a Mass Communication major. This major, which offers concentrations in Communication Studies and Sports Media, will prepare students for employment in a variety of careers in communication. The program will be headed by Dr. Samuel Miller, who holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Public Discourse from the University of North Dakota.
Because communication careers of today demand a mix of fundamentals and a more comprehensive skill set, the program takes an interdisciplinary approach. It includes classes in Mass Media and Society, Media Law and Ethics, Digital and Online Media, Sports Broadcast, Writing, and Production, and Media Relations, but also offers electives in Graphic Design, Marketing, Web Design, Basic Adobe Software, Digital Photography, Advanced Composition and Grammar, Sports History, and Sport Management.
