History Professors to Present Enlightening Lectures at Chowan’s Impeachment Teach-In

Jan 16, 2020 by Staff Reports

On January 23, 2020, Â鶹ÊÓƵ will host the Impeachment Teach-in, an educational as well as an interactive lecture about impeachment in America’s past and present. This specific forum is designed to be a moment of public education, regarding an important current event. The lecture is rooted in the belief that education includes historical, political, and philosophical contexts presented by scholars, as well as the opportunity for shared debate and group discussion among the public.

The program is set to begin at 5:00pm in Vaughan Auditorium with Dr. Edward Snyder, Chair and Associate Professor of History, as the moderator. Dr. David Ballew will lay the discussion’s foundations by giving his presentation on Andrew Johnson, the Constitution, and the politics of Reconstruction. Distinguished Professor of History, Dr. Gregory S. Taylor, will continue the lecture focusing on Richard Nixon, the events beyond Watergate, and the reasons for Nixon’s resignation. And finally, Dr. William “Bill” Eger, Chowan’s Adjunct Instructor in History will speak on Bill Clinton, the use of the independent counsel statute, the role of the Civil Court System, and the impact of a president’s personal life on his presidency and the electorate. To conclude the program, the floor will open for a moderated discussion about the status of current president Donald J. Trump and the impeachment process.

Please join an esteemed line up of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s history professors for a night of education and intelligent conversation on the topic of impeachment and its place in the American government.
