What’s new at CU?

Jan 3, 2020 by Staff Reports

In February, the Department of Athletics announced the addition of Acrobatics & Tumbling as the 20th varsity sport and 11th women's varsity sport in the athletic department.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Department of Athletics in conjunction with the Office of the President at Â鶹ÊÓƵ announced the addition of eSports beginning Fall of 2020 back in November.  Esports is competitive gaming using video games on various platforms, most often in the form of organized, multiplayer competitions.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) announced on December 10 that accreditation for Â鶹ÊÓƵ is reaffirmed for an additional ten years following a comprehensive review of Chowan's academic and administrative programs. Reaffirmation signifies that Chowan programs meet high standards as the result of a rigorous internal and external review process that evaluates compliance against a common set of standards.

In December, the addition of three new academic programs were announced to start in fall 2020: E-commerce, Educational Studies, and Business and Design. To increase its associate degree offerings, Chowan is adding eight programs in fall 2020: Criminal Justice, Recreation, Pre-nursing, General Studies, Social Sciences, Psychology, and Business. In 2020, Chowan will submit a proposal to its regional accreditor (SACSCOC) to offer a Master of Organizational Leadership, a Master of Arts in Teaching (Elementary/Secondary), and a Bachelor in Mass Communication with a Sports Media concentration. Pending approval from SACSCOC, the University will offer its first classes in these three programs in 2021.
