Hawks Women’s Soccer Cages Bears At Home

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Soccer team posted their ninth shutout of the season to record their program tying ninth win with a 3-0 victory over Shaw in a non-conference match.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

 scored twice in the victory to record her 15th and 16th goal of the season.

 tallied her second goal of the season, while  notched an assist in the win.

and  combined for the shutout on a quiet afternoon.

Chowan outshot the Bears 15-3 including 9-0 shots on frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:

The Hawks were aggressive to start the match as Chowan earned two corner kicks.   found herself on the end of one of the corner kicks but the shot was blocked.

Chowan continued to pressure the Shaw defense in the ninth minute as Sabrina Henderson worked up the right side of the box.  Henderson slid a ball in front of goal, where Carolina Lucci redirected the pass with a back heel flick finding the far post for the 1-0 lead.

In the 20', Rebekah Langley had her initial shot blocked before her second attempt found the back of the net to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.

The Blue and White maintained possession throughout the remainder of the half without taking another shot.

2nd Half:

Early in the second half, Chowan had two good looks at the goal as Sabrina Henderson and s shots were saved by the Shaw keeper.

Possession bounced back-and-forth around the midfield until the 80' as the Hawks pushed forward.  Carolina Lucci was pulled down in the box warranting a penalty kick.  Lucci would convert the penalty kick despite the Shaw keeper choosing correctly.  Lucci's attempt would sneak pass the keeper diving to her left for a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks emptied their bench for the remaining 10 minutes of action.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns to Conference Carolinas play as the Hawks travel to Central, S.C. to face Southern Wesleyan in league action on Saturday, October 21.
