CU Men’s Soccer Defeats King, 2-1

BRISTOL, TENN. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team picked up a Conference Carolinas win on the road against King, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

RECORDS | Chowan 6-2-2 (2-1-2), King (Tenn.) 2-8-1 (0-7-0)

LOCATION | Bristol, Tenn. (Parks Field)

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

The Chowan defense held the Tornado offense at bay as King recorded two shots on goal.

 tallied two assist in the win.  recorded his third goal in the past two games and fourth goal this season.

 netted his fourth goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:

Josh Baker looked to get the Hawks on the board quickly as his shot from distance was pushed over the crossbar for a corner in the 3'.

In the 6', Lee Wattam curled a ball from the right side but was pushed out for another corner kick.

 tallied a shot in the 23' but once again the Tornado keeper pushed the ball out of danger for a Chowan corner. 

The Hawks recorded seven corners in the half but was unable to find the back of the net as both teams went into the half scoreless.

2nd Half:

Chowan struck early in the second half as Josh Baker posted the first tally of the match in the 54'.  Carl Kennedysent a pass to Baker finding the upper far corner for the goal.

The Hawks continued to push forward as Carl Kennedy's cross found the head of Lee Wattam in the 61' for the 2-0 advantage.

King recorded their first shot on goal in the 81' but was saved by 

In the final minute of action, King played the restart quickly after a CU foul and was able to get behind the Hawks' defense.  King would keep from being shutout at home finding the late goal.

UP NEXT

Chowan will look to remain unbeaten at home as the Hawks will face Barton in a Conference Carolinas contest on Wednesday, October 11.  Kick-off is slated for 4:30pm.
