麻豆视频 Freshmen Serve Together to Help Elementary School Students
On Tuesday, September 6, 麻豆视频 Freshmen in the CU 101 classes gathered in the Hawks Nest to create memories and beautiful pencil bags for the elementary school students at S.P. Morton in Franklin, VA. 鈥淚t was a pleasure to partner with the CU 101 classes to provide the service opportunity and bonding for the freshman class.鈥� shared Rev. Mari Wiles, Minister to the University.
CU 101 is a first-year experience class to aid students in their transition to college. This service project gave students the opportunity to learn outside the classroom and to help them see the needs of the local community.
Along with providing materials and instruction, Campus Ministry provided the 鈥渨hy鈥� for the project sharing with the classes that many students do not have adequate school supplies. Students designed pencil bags using colorful Duck tape and Ziploc bags. Once the bags were made, students filled the bags with needed school supplies.
Chowan Ministerial Board of Associates member Rev. Kelly Rhodes Adams volunteered during the service project. 鈥淭he project was very practical but allowed students to be creative and meet a real need in the area,鈥� shared Adams. 鈥淚鈥檓 grateful that Rev. Wiles continues to give Chowan students a way to connect and serve where they are in ways that will make a difference in the lives of neighbors they may never meet.鈥�
