Academic Advancement

May 8, 2020 by Staff Reports

Following the April Board of Trustees meeting, Â鶹ÊÓƵ shared with its faculty, staff, and Board of Visitors updates across the University.   Perhaps the most monumental was the University's plans to update and enhance its academic offerings.

In a previous release,  Dr. Danny Moore shared a statement announcing that student learning opportunities at Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be transformed in Fall 2020 by a new general education curriculum created and approved by university faculty.  On the April 30th Board of Trustee meeting, the Board approved the revision of the general education curriculum.  Dr. Moore thoughtfully described The Vocation, Application, and Learning in the Undergraduate Experience for Students (VALUES) Core as “an innovative curriculum centered on preparing students to consider questions about values ("How should I live?"), identity ("Who might I become?"), and purpose ("How do I reflect, integrate, and apply approaches to vocation from my exposure to a Chowan education?").”

The Board of Trustees authorized the faculty and administration to proceed with the following actions on July 1, 2020:

Submission of a substantive change prospectus to SACSCOC for the Master of Arts in Teaching (elementary education, social studies education, comprehensive science education, English education, mathematics education) degree in which 50% or more of the program will be offered online.
Submission of a substantive change prospectus to SACSCOC for the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership degree in which 50% or more of the program will be offered online.
Submission of a substantive change prospectus to SACSCOC for the Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication degree.

Upon approval by SACSCOC, these change prospectus is projected to take effect beginning fall 2021.
