CU Women’s Soccer Advances With Shutout Of SWU
MURFREESBORO, N.C.- The Chowan Women's Soccer team advanced in the 2017 Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 2-0 shutout over the seventh-seeded Southern Wesleyan on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half:
Southern Wesleyan recorded two shots in the 9' of play as the Hawks defense blocked both attempts.
The Hawks notched two shots by and but both attempts saved.
Chowan got on the board in the 11' as defender Shannon Park played up the right side of the pitch. Park slid the ball over the Sierra Gonzalez at the top of the right wing and found the top shelf for the 1-0 lead.
SWU almost found the equalizer in the 27' as Warrior striker, Romanowski, hit the left post and corralled by before the Warriors were able to knock the attempt in.
CU looked to post a second tally in the waning stages of the half grabbing a free kick just outside the box with 7.8 seconds remaining. and had their attempts blocked as the horn sounded.
2nd Half:
SWU came out on the attack after the half with three shots and a corner kick. Off the corner kick, the Hawks' defense stood strong blocking the first attempt and saving the final attempt.
As physical played continued, Sabrina Henderson was pulled from behind near the right end line and was granted a penalty kick in the 63'. Henderson converted from the spot to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Sierra Gonzalez looked to go top shelf again in the 71' but was saved.
The Warriors tallied two shots in the final three minutes of play but was denied by Olivia Borer in goal.
UP NEXT
Chowan will face sixth-seeded Lees-McRae on Thursday, November 2 in the Conference Carolinas Semifinals. The host for the Semifinals will be determined tonight as top-seeded Limestone plays Erskine. Lees-McRae upset third seed Belmont Abbey 4-2 in a shootout.
