Â鶹ÊÓƵ names Modlin Professor Emeritus

Oct 27, 2017 by Staff Reports

MURFREESBORO, NC – After a lengthy career in the public-school system, Dr. Carolyn Modlin joined the faculty at Â鶹ÊÓƵ in 2001. She humbly served the University for 15 years prior to announcing her retirement last year. In September, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees named Modlin professor emeritus upon recommendation by the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees to the full Board.

Dr. Modlin often visited the Chowan campus as a child, and always dreamed of returning as a teacher. She loves the University and is devoted to Chowan inside and outside of the classroom. She is heavily involved in the community, recently honored with the Faculty Excellence in Community Service Award, for her involvement with the Southampton County School Board, Boykins Town Council, Boykins United Methodist Church, and Southampton County Elementary Schools.

Dr. Modlin’s commitment to the University was not without sacrifice. It imposed obligations on her which limited her choices, and created inconveniences. However, her loyalty never wavered, and she has contributed a great deal to make Â鶹ÊÓƵ what it is today. All the while, she demonstrated love and passion for this great University and its students.

Dr. Modlin received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Radford College, Master of Science in Diagnostic and Remedial Reading from Virginia State University, Education Specialist in Educational Administration and Doctor of Education from Virginia Tech. She taught multiple courses in the Education field at Chowan, to include Introduction to Teaching, Introduction to Special Education, Analysis of Research in Teaching, Educational Psychology, Learning Disabilities, Children’s Literature, Teaching Reading in the Elementary School, and Reading Practicum.

Please join Â鶹ÊÓƵ in congratulating Dr. Carolyn Modlin and showing our deep appreciation and gratitude for her service to this great institution.
