CU Volleyball Remains Perfect In North Against Lions
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball extended their winning streak to three matches as the Hawks soared to a straight set victory over the visiting Lions of Lincoln (Pa.) in CIAA Northern Division action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 25, Lincoln 14
Early kills by Karisa Patterson, Milica Vejnovic and Courtney O'Keefe allowed the Hawks to jet out to an early 5-2 lead. The Lions would claw back to knot things up at 5-all.
handed the Hawks the lead back after a kill, 6-5. Milica Vejnovic and Gates pushed the lead out to 10-6. Back-to-back kills by Brittany Tschida doubled up the lead for the Hawks, 12-6.
Makalya Castro pushed the Hawk lead to eight, 18-10, before the Lions scored three straight to cut the deficit to five, 18-13.
Brittany Tschida killed the rally with a kill to give the Hawks the momentum back at 19-13. Two Tschida kills along with a kill by Kayla Gates and a service ace by wrapped up the first set 25-14.
The Hawks recorded 14 kills in the set compared to two by the Lions.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Lincoln 16
Back-to-back attack errors by the Lions paced the Hawks to open up the second set. recorded the first kill for the Hawks to give Chowan an early 3-0 advantage.
Lincoln rallied back to knot the set up at 8-all after a Hawk miscue. Karisa Patterson ended the drought with a kill as Sydney Bell pushed the lead to five, 13-8, after a kill.
The Hawks would string together six straight points to force a Lion timeout, 19-9. Sydney Bell sparked the rally with a kill. Karisa Patterson added to the rally with four aces.
The Lions made a push late to cut the deficit to 23-16, but Brittany Tschida ended the set with back-to-back kills to give the Hawks a 2-0 set lead.
3rd Set
The Lions took their first lead of the match in the final set as a Lions service ace provided a 7-3 advantage. Brittany Tschida ended the run with a kill handing the serve over to Courtney O'Keefe.
Courtney O'Keefe served the Hawks to match point at 24-7. O'Keefe tallied seven service aces during the run. Milica Vejnovic sparked the rally with a kill. Makayla Castro and Brittany Tschida recorded four and two kills respectively during the run to soar towards victory.
The Lions were able to add three points to their total but a Lions service ace ended the set and match.
UP NEXT
Chowan heads to Oxford, Pa. to compete in the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Lincoln on Saturday and Sunday, September 30-October 1. The Hawks will face Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith on Saturday and take on Fayetteville State in the finale on Sunday.
