Chowan Baseball: Hawks Take Two Out of Four From Warriors

MURFREESBORO, NC –  walk off single in the bottom of the 8thinning lifted Chowan over East Stroudsburg University in game three of the four-game series 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks dropped the fourth game 6-4 to move their overall record to 8-10. East Stroudsburg came into the game ranked fourth in the region. Chowan took two out of four games in the series.

After playing from behind for most of the game, the Hawks posted three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to knot the game at 5-5.  led the inning off with a single to centerfield and advanced to second base on an  single down the left field line. With one out,  singled to right center, scoring Markotay. Arcobasso took advantage of a miscue by ESU's right fielder and advanced to second base. On that same play Flanagan scored from third base to cut the lead to 5-4.  blasted a triple to right center field to score Arcobasso and tie the game at 5-5.

, who came in to pitch in relief of starter , got the Hawks out of the top of the 8th unscathed, setting up the Hawks offense and Cross' game-winning run.  led the inning off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  moved Cooper to third base on a fly out to centerfield. ESU intentionally walked Markotay and Flanagan, setting up Cross with one out and the bases loaded. Cross drilled a line drive opposite field to score Cooper from third base and give the Hawks the come-from-behind 6-5 win.

Fago picked up the win in relief after throwing four innings. He scattered three hits and struck out five batters in route to his second win of the season. Cross tallied the teams only multiple hit game after going 2-4 at the plate.

East Stroudsburg picked up the night cap win with a final of 6-4.

The Hawks battled back in game two after getting down 6-0. They posted two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to cut the lead to 6-2. Back-to-back homeruns by Cooper and Brosdahl cut the Warriors lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the 6th inning.

 picked up the loss after throwing 4.2 innings. He gave up five hits and five earned runs for his first loss of the season.  and Cooper pitched in relief of Kaplan.

Both Lanier and Brosdahl ended game two 3-3 at the plate. Brosdahl drove in two runs and scored two runs in the loss.

Chowan will travel to UNC-Pembroke for a two-game series on March 7thand 8th.
