Chowan Women’s Swimming Moves Up a Spot

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Chowan University women's swimming team gained a spot in the overall standings after day three of competition at the 19th Annual Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship on Friday night. The Hawks tallied 90 points in Friday's finals to move up from 11th place to 10th place with 230 total team points. Chowan's swimmers swam some of their fastest times of the year on Friday, including a 6th place overall finish in the finals of the 200 yard freestyle relay. 

In the Friday morning prelim sessions,  swam a collegiate best of 1:14.44, cutting more than seven seconds off her seed time, in the 100 yard breast stroke. 

, , , and  posted a 1:38.46 time in the 200 yard freestyle relay to place 6th overall in the finals of the event. Queens University of Charlotte clocked the best time at 1:31.98. 

Four Chowan swimmers qualified for the 100 yard butterfly after the Friday morning prelim sessions. McCray finished in 17th place witha time of 58.87.  touched the wall just behind McCray at 1:00.62 for 18th place while Bowles finished in 22nd place with a time of 1:02.55.  rounded out the Hawks finishes in 24th place and a time of 1:04.72. 

O represented Chowan in the 200 yard freestyle. She stroked out a time of 1:59.85 to place 21st in the field. Carson-Newman's Margaret Stanberry clocked the events best time at 1:48.21.

Chmielewska touched with wall at 59.68 in the 100 yard backstroke finals to finish 11th overall.  finished in 23rd place after touching the wall at 1:03.09.  

The Hawks sit in 10th place, ahead of Davis & Elkins College, Barton College, and Salem International. Queens University of Charlotte sits atop the thirteen team field with 1136.6 total points. 

The swimmers will be back in action for final day action on Saturday, February 11th. Prelims will be at 10:00am and the finals will begin at 5:00pm.
