Homecoming Worship with Pro Athlete Guest Speaker

Oct 18, 2016 by Staff Reports

MURFREESBORO, NC – Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Campus Ministry held its annual Homecoming Worship Service on Monday, October 3rd. This campus-wide event featured former Georgia Bulldog and Tennessee Titan, Rennie Curran as the speaker. Various student-led ministries on campus participated in the service as well.

After an opening prayer from Associate Minister to the University Drew Phillips, the Daughters of the Most High praise dance ministry combined with the Mimes of God mime ministry in a dance. Randall Dixon, a member of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ football team, introduced the speaker and, right before Curran approached the podium, a YouTube video played on the screen.

Curran encouraged the students in Turner Auditorium to never give up on their dreams regardless of what situations might arise. He explained that he was cut from his NFL team because he was undersized, but that didn’t stop him. “In order to be a champion you have to go through tests,” said Curran. All the conditioning that endured during his preseason days served to prepare him for the season that was approaching.

“Character is what you are like when life is going your way and when life isn’t,” said Curran. “Start to believe in the dream that God has placed inside of you and trust that God created you to be a champion, and different from the rest.”

The service concluded with a selection from the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Instruments of Praise gospel choir and a prayer from Charlie Blackburn, representative of E3, a student led weekly worship group.

“It was a good service overall,” said Â鶹ÊÓƵ student Henry Griffin. “Curran’s life story was very inspiring.”

Students fellowshipped in front of the McDowell Columns building after the benediction, where a plethora of food was provided by Campus Ministry.
