Â鶹ÊÓƵ to host Book Talk with Greg Taylor

Oct 12, 2016 by Staff Reports

MURFREESBORO, NC – Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Whitaker Library will host a book talk with their very own Dr. Gregory S. Taylor, Professor of History and co-author of the recent publication The North Carolina State Prison. In his new book, Taylor uses archival photographs to bridge the gap between the past and the future.

In the past, North Carolina sent most inmates outside of prison walls to work on road camps and prison farms in order to utilize them toward productive ends. Taylor’s book explores all three components of North Carolina’s early prison system – including its use of prison chain gangs – and clarifies how a penitentiary differs from a reformatory, correctional institution, or community-based facility.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ enthusiastically invites the community to hear about this publication on November 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the upper level of Whitaker Library. This event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
