Paper Works Exhibit at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Showcases Art from Unlikely Sources
MURFREESBORO, NC –It takes a special curiosity to wonder how something was made. Paper is not something that stays at the forefront of most ponderings, but Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Dr. Mitch Henke, Associate Professor of Graphic Communications, creates imaginative paper that is sure to interest all who see it. From a variety of unlikely materials like cotton, lottery tickets, and wasp nests, Henke collaborated with Jacob Muldowney, Assistant Professor of Art, and Jennifer Newhouse, Assistant Professor of Creative Writing, to present a new art exhibition at Â鶹ÊÓƵ entitled “Paper Works”.
This singular exhibition will be showcased in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Green Hall Art Gallery from Thursday, October 6th to Thursday, November 3rd. The collaborative interdisciplinary exhibition explores the fine art of hand-made paper and the process of making it, and demonstrates how paper acts as a vehicle to inspire and enhance its applications. Showcased alongside Henke’s paper are artistic works Muldowney and Newhouse have created using this paper.
The opening reception will be October 6th from 5 pm to 7 pm with light refreshments. James M. Guthrie, DMA, Associate Professor of Music will perform Bach selections on the cello during the reception. Chowan invites the community to come and see how paper is made.
