Chowan Hosts Exploration of Regional Treasures
MURFREESBORO, NC – Join Â鶹ÊÓƵ as they host an historical and archeological exploration of regional treasures. This event, “Hidden Gems of the Albemarle”, will take place on Wednesday, October 12th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Vaughan Auditorium – Marks Hall.
The event proudly introduces NC Secretary of Cultural and Natural Resources, Susan Kluttz, as its Keynote Speaker. There will be special presentations by Dan Sayers from American University on “Current Archeological Efforts in the great Dismal Swamp” and Brent Lane from UNC Chapel Hill on “The Economic History of the Albemarle and the Current Search for the Colonists in Salmon Creek”. Joining them from East Carolina University will be Stan Riggs on “NC Land and Water”, Charles Ewen on “The State of Archeology in Northeastern NC”, and E. Thompson Shields, Jr. on “A History of Northeastern NC Literature”.
This event will also include a panel discussion moderated by Deborah Dunn with guests from Edgecombe Community College, Somerset Plantation, Chowan Discovery Group, Preservation NC, Hope Plantation, and Merchants Millpond. There will be displays of Archeological History of the Albemarle Area by Alice Eley Jones in Whitaker Library.
