Films@Chowan to Present “Psycho”
On Sunday, January 31, Â鶹ÊÓƵ invites the community to view the classic film Psycho, the third film in the 2015-2016 Films@Chowan series. The free event begins at 2:00 p.m. in Vaughan Auditorium in Robert Marks Hall. The program will begin with introductory remarks from Gregory Taylor, Associate Professor of History. Jennifer Place, Chair of the Department of Psychology, will discuss the likely diagnosis of Norman Bates, and Pamela Woodard, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, will share information about the real-life inspiration for the character as well as the legal implications of an insanity defense. Following the screening, the audience will be invited to participate in a discussion, facilitated by John Davis, Professor of English. The Films@Chowan series, Old Films, New Ideas, is a community outreach program with the goal of bringing the community to campus for fun and enlightening dialogue about the films selected. This year’s theme correlates to the Twelfth Annual Faculty Interdisciplinary Symposium on Monsters and the Monstrous, which is scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2016. In February, the series will continue with The Terminator. Educators who attend will receive continuing education credit.
