鶹Ƶ Taylor Religious Heritage Lecture Features Michael Moore

Sep 19, 2025 by Corrie Warren

MURFREESBORO, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2025) — 鶹Ƶ hosted the Taylor Religious Heritage Lecture featuring Michael Moore and David Glenn in Turner Auditorium on Wednesday, September 17th.

Singer-songwriter David Glenn was honored with 鶹Ƶ’s Distinguished Alumni Award, presented by Dr. Rosemary Thomas, President, and Harri Lovett, Director of Development.

Glenn opened by leading the community in worship, centering on Psalm 86:12–13. He explained that glorifying God means making great the things of God through our actions, not only through songs or Sunday worship, sharing his testimony of surrendering his music to God.

Michael Moore, also a Chowan alumnus, emphasized that he had come not to “lecture,” but to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, grounding his message in Luke 15:11–32 (The Prodigal Son). He urged students to recognize that rebellion leads to emptiness, while the Father’s compassion and grace are always ready to welcome them home. Acknowledging that many students drift from faith in college, he challenged them to anchor themselves in Christ, community, and wise choices—noting that life can grow harder without God, but in Christ you are never without hope.

“We are so grateful to have Pastor Michael Moore and David Glenn join us and share their gifts with us this week at 鶹Ƶ,” said Interim Minister Jason Fowler. “Their energy and enthusiasm for Jesus have been a blessing to our students, encouraging us all to strengthen our faith and embrace the fullness of God’s calling.”

Together, Moore and Glenn called the Chowan community to turn back to God and live for Him.

The Hargus Taylor Religious Heritage Series, established in 1994 through a generous endowment by Dr. Raymond Hargus Taylor and his wife Doris, continues to enrich the Chowan community. Dr. Taylor, who served as Chaplain, Chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy, and Campus Historian, believed in the powerful connection between faith and academics. The Lecture reflects 鶹Ƶ’s Christian mission to advance students’ callings through teaching, learning, engaging, and serving, and to strengthen an inclusive community grounded in hope and purpose.
