Belolipetskii Clinches Gold, Cabrera Breaks Record at Conference Championships
CARY, N.C. – The CU men’s and women’s swim teams were back in action on day two of the Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Cary, N.C. The teams competed in the preliminary round at 10 a.m., and three Chowan swimmers earned spots in the day two finals, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

THE RESULTS
The Hawks competed in six events during Thursday’s preliminary rounds. The women’s team kicked off the competition with the 50-yard freestyle, where finished 19th with a time of 5:40.39. In the 200-yard IM, placed 21st with a time of 2:29.34, while followed closely in 22nd with a time of 2:35.42. In the 500-yard freestyle, took 17th place with a time of 25.54, was 19th at 25.60, and finished 29th with a time of 33.46.
On the men’s side, earned 9th place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.51, securing a spot in the finals. claimed 1st place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.65, also advancing to the finals, while finished 15th with a time of 2:03.72. In the 50-yard freestyle, placed 2nd overall and first in his heat with a time of 20.91, advancing to the finals.
In the finals, Markovic competed in the consolation heat for the men’s 500-yard freestyle, finishing 1st with a season-best time of 4:41.80. Medina also raced in the consolation finals for the 200-yard IM, finishing with a time of 2:00.94.
Belolipetskii captured his third Conference Carolinas title in the men’s 200-yard IM, clocking in at 1:50.44 to secure the gold medal.
Cabrera took 2nd place in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 20.63, setting a new personal best and surpassing his previous school record of 20.79.
