Chowan Basketball Celebrates Two Conference Carolinas Players of the Week

MURFREESBORO, N.C. –  of CU Women’s Basketball has earned her second Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Brown has played a big role in driving Chowan’s offense this season. This week, she scored a total of 38 points, including a career-high 24 points in Chowan’s game against Francis Marion on January 29th. Against the Patriots, she also recorded two steals, one block, five assists, and six rebounds. In the Hawks win over Erksine, Brown hit for 14 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists. 

The Hawks women’s basketball team is sitting at 13-2 overall, and 10-2 in Conference Carolinas. According to the KPI standings released on February 3rd, Chowan is ranked 2nd in the conference with a KPI of 0.213, just behind Belmont Abbey, which holds a KPI of 0.223.

 of the Hawks men’s basketball team has earned his first Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week award.

Traore grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots against the Patriots on January 29th. He also put up 12 points making it his first double-double since February 19th, 2022, when he grabbed 17 rebounds and scored 14 points at North Greenville. Against Erskine, Traore grabbed 12 rebounds and added a block. Traore totaled 29 rebounds over the two games, including eight offensive rebounds and 15 defensive rebounds. 

CU men’s basketball holds a 12-7 overall record and a 9-3 mark in Conference Carolinas. With the KPI standings released on February 3rd, the Hawks are ranked 2nd in the conference, just behind Emmanuel, which holds a KPI of 0.225. Chowan follows closely with a KPI of 0.213.
