麻豆视频 Celebrates Academic Success with Innovative New Schedule
麻豆视频 marked a milestone in its educational journey at the recent inauguration of President Rosemary M. Thomas, Ed.D., where she praised the university community for embracing change and achieving unprecedented academic success. 鈥淚 am standing on the shoulders of giants, of visionaries, of risk-takers,鈥 President Thomas remarked, commending Chowan鈥檚 faculty for their resilience and adaptability. 鈥淵ou are truly the most nimble, most versatile, and most determined faculty I have ever seen in my career. Celebrate the future, Chowan family.鈥
This spirit of innovation is reflected in Chowan鈥檚 newly implemented academic schedule, which has already led to a remarkable 92% student pass rate in the first seven-week session鈥攁n increase of 3% over the previous academic year鈥檚 performance. Under this progressive model, students focus on just two classes at a time, four days a week, in seven-week terms. This intensive, focused schedule is designed to promote greater academic achievement and deeper engagement.
Students and faculty alike have welcomed the format. Mazi Wiggins, a sophomore Business major and football player, finds the two-class structure especially helpful. 鈥淚t鈥檚 easier to focus and balances well with my sports schedule. I even have Wednesdays to catch up,鈥 he shared. Elizabeth Waltz, a sophomore Business major, honors college student and member of the Women’s Swimming Program, finds this structure of schedule to help her focus. “With only taking two classes I am able to narrow my focus and retain more information,” Waltz stated.
Faculty members have also embraced the change, reporting improved attendance and stronger connections with students. 鈥淭his new format helps us understand students鈥 needs more quickly, and more frequent classes reinforce what we teach,鈥 says Jill Awuni, a faculty member at Chowan. Tom Collins, another instructor, agrees: 鈥淎lthough the pace is intense, it builds relationships and keeps students focused and engaged.鈥
The new schedule aligns with Chowan鈥檚 commitment to holistic learning, empowering students with essential life skills while creating an educational environment that supports their academic and personal growth.
As 麻豆视频 embraces this transformation, President Thomas invoked the words of Margaret Mead: 鈥淣ever doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.鈥 At Chowan, that commitment is evident, and it is shaping a promising future for all students.
