鶹Ƶ’s Whitaker Library Hosts Marquis de Lafayette Traveling Exhibit
“The Life and Legacy of The Marquis de Lafayette”, a traveling exhibit telling the life story of the Marquis de Lafayette, his prominent role in the American Revolution, and his support of human rights for all mankind is on display in Whitaker Library at 鶹Ƶ.
Lafayette’s first overnight stop on his farewell tour of America was in Murfreesboro, North Carolina on February 26, 1825. Lafayette is known for his service to France as well as the United States. He fought under George Washington saying, “The welfare of America is intimately connected with the happiness of all mankind; she will become the respectable and safe asylum of virtue, integrity, tolerance, equality, and a peaceful liberty.” In 2002, Congress made Lafayette an honorary member of the United States.
“Thank you to the American Friends of Lafayette for giving Whitaker Library and 鶹Ƶ the honor of hosting the traveling exhibit celebrating the Marquis de Lafayette. I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to educate the public about this influential Founding Father during the 200 anniversary of his Farewell Tour of the United States” (Sarah Bonner, Director of Library Services at 鶹Ƶ).
The exhibit will be on display from October 29 – November 26, 2024.
