Â鶹ÊÓƵ Business Department Hosts Sara Crowder for Visiting Executive Event
On April 4th, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Business Department welcomed Sara J. Crowder, a financial advisor for Edward Jones, as the featured speaker for their Visiting Executive event. Crowder, who resides in Newsoms, VA, shared her valuable insights and experiences with the students, emphasizing the dedication required to pursue a successful career in the financial industry.
During the event, Crowder engaged with the students, providing them with an opportunity to ask questions and seek advice from a seasoned professional. She openly discussed her unconventional journey to her dream job, inspiring the students to explore different career paths and understand the level of commitment necessary to achieve their goals. After graduating from UNC Asheville with a BA in Music Performance, Crowder got her start selling advertisements for the Tidewater Publications in Franklin, VA. This gave her the confidence to make personal connections – a skill that would help her get into the world of financial planning.
Meeting with a representative of Edward Jones, Crowder was excited to see the flexibility and freedom that financial advising could offer. Crowder dedicated the next five years to establishing her career with Edward Jones, putting in the work to create a successful branch that allowed her the freedom she longed for in her life. Crowder is now able to manage finances for over 250 households as well as having the freedom to serve her community, her church, and be an active mother to her three children.Â
The Visiting Executive event organized by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Business Department aims to bridge the gap between academia and the real world. By inviting professionals like Crowder to share their expertise, students gain a deeper understanding of various careers and the dedication required to excel in their chosen fields.
Following the Visiting Executive event, the business department hosted its Annual Awards and Graduate Recognition ceremony, honoring seniors and recognizing the academic achievements of outstanding business students. The combination of events gave graduating seniors the opportunity to ask questions that they have as they look forward to entering the workforce.
