Doane Earns Columns Prize

Nov 7, 2014 by Staff Reports

Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s 2014 McDowell Columns Scholar Prize was presented to Dr. Ashley N. Doane, Assistant Professor of Psychology, during the annual Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Creative Achievement on Wednesday, Nov. 5th.

The prize consists of a cash award and a book-style clock, showcasing the historic McDowell Columns building and engraved with Doane’s name.

“What you do professionally outside the classroom is on top of a heavy teaching load,” remarked Â鶹ÊÓƵ Provost Dr. Danny Moore at the award ceremony. “This is our way to recognize all that you do.”

Dr. Doane’s latest research initiatives come from a special request involving the U.S. Army.

“I have been appointed as a Senior Research Consortium Fellow through the Consortium Research Fellows Program to assist the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences by providing cyberbullying information that will be used to address the topic of cyberbullying among soldiers,” explained Dr. Doane.

Doane’s other professional activities for 2013-2014 include her membership in the International Society for Research on Aggression, the Association for Psychological Science, the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, and the Society for Research on Child Development.

Dr. Doane had her work, “A Development of the Cyberbullying Experiences Survey”, published in the September 2013 journal of Emerging Adulthood. Dr. Doane also presented her work “Testing of a Peer-Delivered Cyberbullying Prevention Program for College Students” at the 26th annual Association for Psychological Science Convention in San Francisco, CA in May 2014.

Ashley Doane was selected among five candidates from across the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus representing various external professional activities such as church leadership presentations, photography, and book or journal publishing.

Congratulations to Dr. Ashley Doane on her well-deserved award!
